The Florida Commission on Ethics has put an end to "Ticketgate," dismissing allegations that Orange County Commissioner Mayra Uribe used her position to benefit her family. The complaint, filed by attorney Christian Waugh, claimed Uribe improperly funneled luxury box tickets to a nonprofit run by her husband, Kevin Sutton. These tickets, shared with Sutton's charity, All Star Dads, support initiatives teaching fathers essential parenting skills. But after review, the ethics board found no violation.
Despite the dismissal, Uribe’s opponent, Linda Stewart, is keeping the controversy alive in her campaign, raising questions about ethics in public service. Uribe’s team, however, is calling this a “desperate smear tactic.”
This saga has pushed Orange County to revise ticket policies, barring officials from donating tickets to nonprofits led by relatives. It's a reminder: sometimes, politics gets heated—even over concert seats.
