Media Relations

Coordinate directly with the people responsible for producing the news and features in mass media.

Our Media Relations team is prepared to work with local, state and national media outlets to inform the public of your organization's mission, policies and practices in a positive, consistent and credible manner. We’ll coordinate directly with the people responsible for producing the news and features. Our goal is to maximize positive coverage in the best possible mass media outlets without paying for it directly through advertising.

It’s common to see people use the terms public relations and media relations interchangeably; however, doing so is incorrect. Media relations refer to the relationship that an individual, company or organization has developed with journalists and publishers, while public relations extend that relationship beyond the media to the general public.

It's possible for communication between the media and an organization to be initiated by either side. However, dealing with the media presents unique challenges in that the news media cannot be controlled — they have ultimate control over whether stories pitched to them are of interest to their audiences. Because of this fact, ongoing relationships between an organization and the news media are vital. One way we ensure a positive working relationship with people in the media has been to become very familiar with their "beats" and areas of interests. We make every effort to become familiar with as many magazines, journals, newspapers, and blogs as possible, so we can find the best compatibility for you.

The media consists of thousands of magazine publications, newspapers, and TV and radio stations. Therefore, when a "newsworthy" event occurs, we use our media lists to assist in determining which media outlet may be the most interested in your story.
